LilyPad Arduino Simple Board

LilyPad is a wearable e-textile technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. Each LilyPad was creatively designed to have large connecting pads to allow them to be sewn into clothing. Various input, output, power, and sensor boards are available. They’re even washable!

Sparkfun member Dia posted a nice tutorial on this to get you started sewing a simple LEDs-only circuit using the LilyPad Arduino Simple Board. You won’t learn how to create your own Arduino program, but you’ll hook 9 LEDs to the board (one to every pin except + and -), and you’ll upload provided code to change the way the lights move and blink.

The materials you’ll need are as follows:

Conductive thread

LilyPad LEDs (9)

LilyPad Arduino Simple Board

LilyPad FTDI

Mini USB cable

Lithium Polymer Battery

Fabric, Garment, or project

Arduino, the software of which can be downloaded freeware from http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software.
